Why couldn’t we have grown-ups in charge?

Filed under: Economics, Republicans — Alec @ 1:21 pm

From Juan Cole: “As Alan Greenspan recently admitted, his conviction that bankers would not steal from us because it would be bad for the bank was naive; I guess that is what comes of never growing out of Ayn Rand when you move into your twenties and later.”

What sort of world does Alan Greenspan live in? Is the guy a total idiot or simply naive. It’s amazing that he was accorded so much respect. It’s also amazing how much respect was paid to Milton Friedman. Two men who are largely responsible for the philosophies that have caused the current crisis.

What is fascinating is that it’s not just bankers who steal, but also soldiers. The NY Times had an article about the graft and corruption among the U.S. Military in Iraq. A brief summary can be found at Hullabaloo.

Pretty much everything that the GOP has done in the last 8 years goes to show that people need regulations and oversight. Unless, that is, you want to steal.

And if you think that the GOP still has something valuable to say, take a look at this chart of actual job loss data. Click on the image for a larger one.

  1. Amazing that people still like Republicans and think they are competent.
